    • Dear Mr. Narron,

I used to work for Marshall Equipment Company (now Marshall Welding) after I graduated from Missouri Valley College with a degree in art. That was back in 1977. I was hired as a welder at Marshall Equipment and worked on many of those trucks in both the spring when folks were getting ready to plant and then on some of the same trucks in the fall when they were getting ready to harvest. I did that for a couple of years and then went back to work for Missouri Valley College as a part time ceramics professer for a few years. Those old farm trucks had very low milage because, for the most part, they only got used a couple of times a year. I was fascinated with them because I felt and still feel like they embody some very powerful values of hard work and effeciency and to a large extent the esthetic qualities of what those guys who were designing them embued in their creation. That may all sound rather lofty but I went to school for quite awhile and sometimes just can’t help it.

I started making paintings of them and have continued to do so over the years up into the present. My son, Joshua, who helped me set up my website brought your comments to my attention and it is great to know about someone who has had an interest in these old workhorses for a slightly different reason but an interest in them none the less. They kind of wear off on us. I sold that painting of the Cold Comet to a couple from Chicago who saw my work on line and came down here to Columbia a few years ago and bought that painting along with about three other landscapes.

Thank you for your comments on my work.
